About CVHU

About us.

Our Mission

At Cedar Valley Hand Up (CVHU), our mission is simple yet powerful: to break generational cycles of dysfunction and provide a bridge to success for men and women rebuilding their lives.

We believe no one is defined by their past. By offering safe housing, life skills training, and ongoing support, we empower individuals to achieve lasting positive change and independence.

Our Vision

We envision a ripple effect of transformation across the Cedar Valley — where individuals once trapped in cycles of relapse, incarceration, or homelessness become thriving, self-sufficient members of the community.

Our Values

At CVHU, we are committed to:

  • Dignity: Meeting people exactly where they are, with respect and compassion.
  • Integrity: Modeling honesty, consistency, and accountability.
  • Hope: Believing in every person’s potential to grow and thrive.
  • Community: Building strong partnerships to maximize impact.
  • Faith & Resilience: Providing a safe space for healing and transformation.

Our Story

Cedar Valley Hand Up was founded with a heart to serve those too often overlooked — men and women leaving jails, prisons, rehabilitation programs, mental health facilities, and homelessness. We recognized the need for more than just a “handout.” People need a hand up: real tools, guidance, and community support to build a new life.

Through round-the-clock staffing, structured life skills classes, and partnerships with organizations like AA, NA, Celebrate Recovery, Pathways, Horizons, and Elevate, we walk alongside individuals on their journey from dependency to independence.

What We Do

Our transitional reentry housing program provides:

Safe and Stable Housing

Residents may stay with us for 6-18 months, depending on their needs assessed at intake.

We work with individuals in areas like cooking, hygiene, budgeting, and job readiness.

Career Preparation

We help with resume building, mock interviews, and general workplace skill development.

Personal Growth & Accountability

Through mentorship, counseling, and community support, our members find personal growth while working through our program.

Ongoing Support

Even after program completion, we maintain contact with our residents to ensure lasting stability.

Our Amazing Team

Our leadership and staff are passionate about walking alongside participants with professionalism, compassion, and consistency. Together with our board of directors and community partners, we are committed to creating long-term change in the Cedar Valley.
